Interesting piece. Interesting comments. I must play Devil's Advocate.
Dave Chappelle is one of the smartest comedians in the world today.
It is his job to make jokes.
When he makes jokes, he calls attention to things.
He doesn't joke about everything. He jokes about what he thinks about. So arguably, and I do believe that he thinks about Trans rights. And by bringing trans jokes into his work he is bringing attention to a marginalized group.
There is no such thing as bad publicity.
He doesn't have to mention trans people at all. Would you then consider that an erasure of them?
Many comedians do not mention trans people and that is probably because they don't think about them or care about them or don't want the hassle.
Dave Chappelle risks it. I applaud him for doing so. His thinking is more elevated than most people in his audience and so he bringhs the content to them at their level. that is his genius.
Which brings us to Netflix.
Are you honestly so dense that you interpret those words to be an authentic assessment of how the conversation went?
Please
Dave works for Netflix. he doesn't have to. he has already demonstrated that he gives a F about money.
He probably said you can have the old Dave Chappelle show or you can have the currenyt Dave Chappelle.
This is business. Nobody gibes a fuck about anybodies feelings. Netflix calcultaed the value of the old stuff with the value of the potential future and sided with Dave.
Strictly business
His couching it as feelings is as euphemistic as saying someone passed as opposed to DIED.
